Why? Well, you guess it: I'm very passionate about climate change.

I see my participation in this project as a precious opportunity to accomplish my life's highest goal: to contribute to helping human world come into harmony with the world of nature, by becoming careful and compassionate stewards for all ecosystems on the planet, including the human society itself. I hope that together in ‘Challenge Europe’ we will agree on solutions that will facilitate this vision. I'm convinced that the challenge that lies ahead of us is not about technology only, not only about money. The issue of climate change is systemic and all-encompassing. At the same time, there’s lack of ethics in the current debate and lack of political action. That’s why the solutions should be accordingly structural and system-wide, taking ethical dimension into account and building up public support for radical change of policies through political means. And so, to facilitate solutions that we are going to choose, we should stop talking only among ourselves and start talking to the rest of society. This is what I hope 'Challenge Europe' will be about. Because if we fail in communicating the necessary changes to the public and to politicians, fail to penetrate and influence mainstream institutions, we might lose a unique opportunity to save this planet as we know it.

I believe that climate change should be approached from a holistic perspective. We shouldn't strive to reduce carbon emissions at all costs: at the cost of biodiversity, at the cost of planet's ecosystems, at the cost of healthcare or human well-being and happiness in general. Quite the opposite: we can see the threat of climate disruption as a great chance to fix many things that are wrong with our society! Things that have been causing and aggravating many of the societal and environmental problems until now. Climate change comes at the cross-section of issues like indigenous people’s and women's rights, peace and conflict, global justice and intergenerational solidarity, starvation and water scarcity, energy poverty and many others. Let us not forget about these issues while we are trying to solve climate change. This urgent challenge should become our great opportunity to hurry up the transition towards a sustainable harmonic world.

Well, let be me a bit provocative in my coverage of the first sessions of the conference and I'll hope that the organisers won't get angry with me (especially since I'm borrowing their laptop to type this post).

And so in this critically provocative spirit, I want to point out to some moments in the otherwise very interesting and (sometimes) inspiring keynote presentations, that I personally found myself in disagreement with. Like, for example, when Hanna herself said "climate catastrophes are fair, because they hit everyone equally and don't discriminate on basis on race, religion, or country". Well, let me (and the chairman of the IPCC, Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri, who also made this point in his speech on a videolink from New Delhi) disagree with that. It is a known fact that the current state of climate politics is full of inequalities of different kinds and suffers from lack of ethics. See, the today's situation is mostly the developed countries' responsibility, but those who will suffer the most from the consequences are actually those who are least able to deal with them. That is to say "poor countries" and poor people in "rich countries". Not very fair, is it?

Then Stefan Henningsson, WWF's strategy analyst, repeated the point of the Sweden's Environmental Minister Andreas Carlgren that this country's emissions have decreased by 9 per cent compared with 1990 levels and that Sweden successfully managed to decouple economic growth and the greenhouse gases emissions. Inside, I was protesting, but fortunately there was another speaker (namely, Carl Mossfeldt of Tällberg Advisors) who pointed out to a clear fact that Sweden's emissions didn't decrease (as one might believe when looking at the domestic production processes, and not counting in international sea and air traffic) but were displaced to the developing countries. When one analyses increased consumption in Sweden, taking imports into accounts, it becomes apparent that the emissions have actually grown by almost a third from 1990 levels. I think it's important to know not to make false claims about non-existent "success stories".

The deputy mayor of the city of Örebro, Gabriella Blomgren, a young leader herself, however passionate and determined to make a difference, made a funny comment about how she always try to carry her laptop with her instead of using paper notes. To help climate, of course. Well, maybe she didn't consider all the electricity produced to power her laptop (even though in Sweden half of it comes from hydro and roughly another half – from nukes). And that paper can be a good stock of carbon, especially if it's recycled paper and the one that is going to be recycled again when discarded. It's nice to see Gabriela's passion, but it's good to be on the right track and have your facts straight.

Then, after the opening ceremony we had a keynote presentation by Dr. R. K. Pachauri, the chairman of the IPCC and the man who shared Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore last year. I have to say that I really liked his presentation! By the way, by having him on video link instead of in person, the organisers saved 697 kg of CO2 emissions, but Dr. Pauchari himself was mostly happy for his back that didn't have to suffer from another long-distance flight. He said that he has to fly so much around the world, that he got a sore back and a scalp infection (because of which he had to wear a hat during his presentation). Well, let's wish that more organisers of similar events will utilise opportunities of video conferences, instead of contributing to increasing air traffic, right?

Among some interesting facts that he mentioned was how consumption of meat contributes greatly to climate change and how he himself is a devoted vegetarian. He said that advising to eat much less meat might not be a very popular idea in many countries around the world, but that alone will make the planet – and ourselves! – a lot healthier. That really pleased me (kudos to Dr. Pauchari!) and made me wonder (for the hundredth time, probably) why environmental or climate conferences like this one are not completely meat-free (there was chicken served at lunch and bacon during coffee break, but the vegetarian alternative – let's give the organisers a due credit – was great, including even very tasty soy tsai and some crazy green beans that I never ate before, but – oops, I digress here!) Something to think about in the future, I guess… We'll see what will be served at the buffet dinner with the Mayor of Örebro two hours later tonight.

One important thing that Dr. Pauchari said was that the window of opportunity to take necessary actions on climate might be as narrow as only 7 years from now. The radical measures must include:

  • Putting price on climate, through taxation and carbon trade

  • Enforcing regulation for energy efficiency (especially in buildings)

  • And enacting major changes in lifestyles and patterns of behaviour



And so he was talking a lot about technologies (the need for technology transfer from developed to developing countries) and about changing lifestyles, but nothing about the role of population size and population growth. So decided to seize an opportunity and ask the question that my organisation back home (Hållbart universitet in Lund) has commissioned me to raise (thanks, Elias!). Dr. Pauchari agreed that the population growth is an important issue, but even more important are consumption levels, that are currently out of check and totally unsustainable (there are not enough planets to satisfy it). Speaking of measures of population control he pointed that while some "draconian measures" might work under less democratic regimes, in genuine democracies the only way must be through: education of young girls, raising status of women and giving more rights to women in general and over decisions over reproduction in particular, and encouraging young families to have fewer kids. Thus, a strong emphasis on education.

Then he was talking about initiative for "One Billion Lights" – to provide 1,6 bln people currently living without access to electricity and other modern forms of energy with affordable and sustainable (solar + CFL) lighting solutions. Again I felt funny when he spoke about CFLs (aka energy-saving light bulbs) for Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia, while right there, in the big conference hall where we were sitting, I counted 432 (I'm a freak, I know) old incandescent light bulbs in five huge lamps over our heads plus couple of tens incandescent light bulbs in smaller lamps. I wonder who runs the congression centre, whether it's municipality of Örebro or some private entity, but didn't those guys figure out that they could save lots of money and CO2 emissions by replacing those light bulbs? I wondered if any other "leaders of tomorrow" in that hall noticed those light bulbs of yesterday and if any of them were feeling as strongly about that as I did. (update: my cool roommate Gustav have later confirmed that he was)

Well, enough of criticism for today, and let me assure you that informative, exciting and inspiring things that happened at the conference's first day have greatly outweighed those moments that I described. Kudos to the organisers and participants!

Basically, it's a high profile conference on climate change for the leaders of tomorrow, coming from a great variety of organisations (NGOs, business associations, youth political movements) and countries (in Europe, Americas, Asia).


The conference's programme reads:


“The transition towards sustainability will present new challenges for global leadership. globalisation makes us more mutually interdependent than ever before. Leaders require a holistic mindset, and to be open for ideas on how to make our global village sustainable.
This three-days-conference will provide the possibility for the group to examine the meaning of leadership, with the stimulating company of other committed individuals.
The purpose of the conference is to examine and discuss how the participants and their organisations can relate to, and work for, sustainability, and give the participants concrete tools to bring back home, to share with colleagues and friends.”


Among the speakers at the conference there will be Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri, the chairperson of the IPCC, who shared this year's Nobel Prize with Al Gore; Michael wood, the US ambassador to Sweden, climate campaigners of SNF and WWF Sweden, and lots of other very interesting and inspirational people.


As you can probably feel, I'm very exciting about this event. Today and the day before I held consultations with my comrades from Hållbart universitet and from Green Students Lund, where I was just re-elected as a co-spokesperson. I've got some valuable ideas and advices on what and how I shall communicate at the conference. Me and my friend, classmate, flatmate and a fellow esperantist Camille are planning the first pilot university course on Mobility Management. Swedish government financed this project through its climate investment programme (KLIMP). The course is directed to our fellow classmates at LUMES and so me and Camille will directly experience consequences of our work ourselves, in the autumn semester. So we better make it right, otherwise everybody will hate us!

Having said this about enormous responsibility that I feel, I just love this job! Modern office in the city center (50 meters from the railway station), extremely nice and friendly colleagues, sincerely devoted to the issue of urban transport sustainability, some of our friends also working in the same unit part-time (counting vehicles on the roads, making calls to new residents of Lund, doing their internships, etc), and – of course! – my boss, Anders Söderberg, who is the nicest!! He really puts a lot of efforts to make sure that me and Camille feel welcome and comfortable here, and that all conditions are provided for our productive work. He's extremely friendly and supportive, it's a great pleasure to work with him. We also have the most interesting conversations with him about Swedish culture and politics during breakfast or lunch time. I had a chance to work with him before, at the ECOMM 2007 conference this spring, so I knew it was going to be nice. Besides, he was a chairman of Hållbart universitet, a student environment organisation at the Lund University, that I'm a board member of now… It's nice to feel such inter-generational continuity! ;-) Oh, and because it's a small world, some years ago he was applying for a job at Greenpeace Nordic and having an interview with Martina Krüger, who was my supervisor for an internship project I was doing at Greenpeace the past two weeks (a study on electricity producers in Sweden).

Как и было запланировано, Новый год я встречал в Германии. Мой краткий отчёт (на международном языке) об этом мероприятии можно найти здесь. Вернуться в Швецию вообще и в Лунд в частности оказалось на удивление приятно! Я сам поразился, насколько эта страна и этот город успели стать такими родными мне. Кстати, возвращение совпало с новосельем — прямо с вокзала (мой велосипед терпеливо дожидался меня всю неделю на парковке через дорогу) я поехал в новую квартиру, которую мы (я и двое моих одноклассников из Японии и Китая) арендовали буквально за день до моего отъезда. В большой четырёхкомнатной квартире оказалось намного уютней и по-домашнему, чем в предыдущей моей комнате. А кроме четырёх комнат (трёх спален и гостиной) у нас ещё есть огромная кухня с четырьмя окнами во всю стену, выходящими на солнечную сторону, так что в кухне весь день светло и уютно и я провожу там почти всё время, благо что интернет у нас беспроводный. Вот и сейчас я сижу за кухонным столом, набирая эту запись и кушая оливки. :-) Так как в день приезда Лунд встречал меня солнечной и морозной погодой, то я решил немного прогуляться по району. Он оказался чудесным: полностью безмашинным (причём официально — на каждом информационном щите с картой местности с гордостью указано: безмашинный район), так что родители могут не переживать, что их ребёнок, выйдя поиграть во двор, попадёт под машину (то же самое насчёт домашних животных — кошки гуляют здесь без опаски). А ещё каждый двор — это комбинация сквера с деревцами и кустиками и детской игровой площадки с горками, качелями, каруселями… Вообще весь район — это такая лесопарковая зона. Сегодня, начав тренировки к грядущему в мае полумарафону (21 км) в Готенбурге, я обнаружил в нашем районе три специальных маршрута для бега: красный (3 км), жёлтый (5 км) и зелёный (10 км), можете посмотреть сами на карте (1,9 Мб). Фонарные столбы вдоль дорожек помечены соответствующими цветовыми знаками, так что следовать выбранному курсу легко, а сам маршрут проходит по такой полудеревенской-полулесной местности, красотища!.. Что ещё у нас здесь есть хорошего? А, вот: оба моих любимых экологических-этических супермаркета (Coop Konsum и ICA) находятся в двух минутах ходьбы от дома, причём расположены бок о бок друг с другом, в одном архитектурном комплексе. А раньше приходилось крутить педали минут 8—12 чтобы добраться хотя бы до одного из них. Университет теперь тоже стал ближе в два раза — 8 минут на велосипеде вместо 15 минут от старого места жительства. И ещё один восторженный факт о районе: здесь перерабатывают и органические отходы тоже, делают компост. Так что теперь старательно компостируем всю образующуюся в процессе приготовления пищи органику и относим в специальное помещение во дворе (по виду компост-агрегаты напоминают какие-то фантастические биореакторы).

Спрашиваете, почему я не удосужился написать в блог раньше? Дело в том, что к сегодняшнему (пятницы) утру мы должны были сдать экзаменационное эссе к курсу “Sustainability Science”. На момент моего возвращения из Германии моё эссе в каком-то виде существовало только в моей голове, но не в памяти моего компьютера. Поэтому все пасмурные и тотально дождливые дни (кроме дня возвращения и вот сегодняшнего) я предавался домоседству и писал работу, посвящённую транспортным проблемам Москвы. Основная тема: автомобиль — враг людей и общества, из-за засилья машин жизнь в городе превращается в кромешный ад. Долой авто, да здравствуют общественный транспорт и велосипеды! ;-) Кажется, даже до московских чиновников эти нехитрые постулаты устойчивого городского развития начинают доходить понемногу… А вот ещё одна отличная статья на ту же тему: «Москвичи изменяют автомобилям».

Итак, вчера вечером эссе было дописано, вычитано и закачано на университетский сайт. Сегодняшний праздник свободы был освещён зимним солнышком и раскачан сильными порывами ветра — идеальная погода для пробежек. :-) Появившееся свободное время было использовано также для распаковки рюкзака после Германии, уборки и украшения моей комнаты (повесил на стену прекрасный флаг Тибета, а на дверь — предвыборный плакат Зелёной партии Швеции). Занятия в университете возобновятся только во вторник, в тот же день начнётся мой новый курс в KOMVUX — «Шведский как второй язык».

Из других радостных новостей — Apple (которая теперь «просто Apple», а не Apple Computer, как все 30 лет до сих пор) наконец-то выпустила iPhone!!! Дружно бьёмся в экстазе. :-) Ещё немного, и покоримся этому другому (после автомобилей и телевиденья) мировому злу — мобильным телефонам. Особенно если это не просто телефон, а ещё и iPod и интернет-коммуникатор в одном устройстве, а на корпусе у него — надкусанное яблочко… Вчера полтора часа смотрел на компьютере запись трансляции выступления Стива Джобса (да святится имя его!) на Macworld. Стив зажигал, как и всегда!

А ещё вчера (опять же, Стив напомнил!) скачал целиком двойной альбом “Stadium Arcadium” Red Hot Chilly Peppers, теперь вот слушаю, радуюсь. :-)

А сегодня последний день моего пребывания в моей «квартирке», в которой я жил с середины августа. Завтра перевожу вещи в четырёхкомнатную квартиру, которую мы будем совместно снимать ещё с двумя моими одноклассниками. Полдня сегодня ушло на упаковывание вещей и отдраивание всех поверхностей. Оставлю квартирку сияющей чистотой — на радость новым жильцам и к удовлетворению инспекции. Но по-настоящему въедем в новое жильё мы только в начале января, после возвращения из Германии. Уже завтра начинается моё большое каникулярное путешествие: 24 декабря — празднование Рождества с одноклассниками и друзьями в Лунде, 25—26 декабря — прогулки по Копенгагену в компании давних и замечательных моих друзей-эсперантистов, 27 декабря—3 января — празднование Нового года в Германии на большой молодёжной международной эсперанто-тусовке (той самой, что в средневековом замке), 4 января — снова в Лунде, новоселье!

The last post ended with me full of doubts about the politics in general and the green politics in particular. But, of course, knowing some people like Tomas Nilsson and others that I’ve met at the Green Party here, and seeing the way how Miljöpartiet actually works — all that gave me a new hope and a cause for more optimistic view on green politics. And the last drop of antidote against the cynicism was that Saturday’s course and especially the Lotta Hedström's presentation. I finally sort of separated in my mind what had happened with the ‘Union of Russian Greens’ in Russia and what is going on here in Sweden in Miljöpartiet…

But let’s get back now to the Lotta’s presentation. She was talking about the present day’s ‘triple solidarity’ which lies at the foundation of all Swedish Green party’s work:
  • Solidarity with all the people around the world,
  • Solidarity with future generations,
  • Solidarity with non-human nature (animals, plants, ecosystems, landscapes).
The main ‘global’ issues for the Green party in this context are: Peace, Food, Environment, Solidarity (especially in the context of human rights; by the way, Lotta is sure too, that the explosions of buildings in Russia was accomplished by the domestic security service, fulfilling the government’s order to create a cause for a new war in Chechnya), Power (here such concepts as geopolitics, terrorism, globalization all become involved and intermixed) and, of course, the Struggle Against Poverty. Well, I won’t choke up your mind with politics any longer (especially because I’ll be back with this topics a couple of paragraphs below), unless if you are really interested in this topic — in this case you may write to my private address or in the comments to this post — we’ll discuss it together! ;-)

After the meeting (I was like bursting with inspiration!) me and Tomas hurried to visit the local esperantist Kalle.

On Sunday on the way to Småland Nation (five hours of vegan cooking orgy and a non-stop eating, there will be a post in my blog about this some time in the future) Tomas was telling me about his own vision of the green ideology (he is an author and co-author of a number of books on this topic, the last of which will soon be published by the Miljöpartiet’s office in Gothenburg). Exciting!

On Monday evening there was a long-expected meeting of the Green Students (or Gröna Studenter in Swedish), very similar to the Saturday’s course, but three times shorter and exclusively for the youth. Twenty four persons attented! I also contributed to his high number: my classmates made up almost a half of the participants. Ulf spoke again in the first part with the similar story (but this time in English) about the history of the party and its youth wing Grön Ungdom and the Green Students (the latter being a more recent development). He skilfully added his personal history with Miljöpartiet to the general narration. Then I was given an opportunity to tell about the emergence (it happened only a couple of months ago, when I had come to the Green party here and had been one of the participants of this process) and activities of the Green Students in Lund.

The second part of our meeting was guided by Karolina Algotsson from Malmö. She introduced green ideology a bit differently than Tomas. It would be interesting to discuss it with both of them (Tomas left Lund one day before, on Sunday), but I quite liked her vision too. I especially liked ideological link between ecology, diversity, decentralization, collectivism/solidarity, individualism and queer. And, of course, an overarching importance of such concepts as life quality, wellbeing, happiness… ‘This is what it’s all about!’, the final lines from this short video came to my mind. Early and eco-anarchists (including my favorite thinkers of this intellectual movement Peter Kropotkin and Murray Bookchin) were mentioned by Karolina among the main sources of green ideas!

By chance I discovered that Google Earth/Maps now features satellite of my home region in a much higher resolution than it used to before. So I decided to blogpost a virtual tour to the places of my childhood and adolescence. Welcome aboard this magical mystery tour, everyone! ;-)

On this photo we see the area from very high (20 km) above. We may see Tsimlyansk in the north, it’s where I was born. It’s quite old (soon to become 350 years old) Cossacks’ settlement and quite small one for today’s standards: with population of 15 thousand people it’s the smallest town in Rostov region. In the south, 20 km from Tsimlyansk, we see Volgodonsk (pop. 171 thousand). It’s just 50 years old, a juvenile age for a city. There I spent my childhood and adolescence, studied at school and university. It’s situated in the middle between Rostov-on-Don and Volgograd (the capital cities of two neighboring regions, or provinces). A big river in the center of the picture is Don, one of the longest and most famous rivers in the south of European Russia. The ‘sea’ on the right is the Tsimlyansk Reservoir, it was created artificially which led to flooding of many hectares of productive land and to forced relocation of thousand of people from their historic territory. All that to build the Tsimlyansk Hydro Power Plant. Now people swim and fish there, but lately the reservoir brings more problems than benefits: eutrophication (easily seen on the photo), blue-green algae releasing stinky and greenhouse methane… All these are the consequences of the rapid industrialization of the Soviet era. Towns are surrounded by a pattern of fields, it’s an agricultural region, thanks to the mild climate and productive soil.

The next photo (it’s a bird view!) shows us one of the Tsimlyansk districts (on its southern edge) where the house stands, which once belonged to my grandparents from the mother’s side. To that house I was delivered after I was born. The red square without label on the photo is that house. There’s a bazaar nearby, and a church to the south. It wasn’t there where I was a kid, instead of it we had a grocery store. That’s why I don’t remember it.

This plane view features virtually entire Volgodonsk: its split into the ‘old town’ (historic part, where the construction of the new settlement began) and the ‘new city’, the later and more modern part. The gulf divides them, and the bridge over it connects them. On the top of the photo you can see two channels: one for navigation (the one which connects the rivers Volga and Don and gave the city its name) and one for irrigation. In the northern part of the city you can clearly see the harbor. The city is quite green when it comes to the number of trees, especially its ‘old’ part.

A bird view again. Here we see a disctrict in the ‘old town’ (the bridge over the gulf at the photo’s bottom is the same as the one at the middle-bottom of the previous photo). The district bears the name ‘South-Western’. You can see the both kindergartens that I attended as a child. I was going to the northern one just for a couple of days, and then I got ill. Another one, in the south-east, I attended for much longer time. There’s a school close to my house (of course, the entire house doesn’t belong to my family alone, it’s a big five-stories high block of flats). The school was originally named after Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya (her story inspired Kim Stanley Robinson to name one of his Mars trilogy’s characters after her). Now it’s just Municipal gymnasium no. 5. Quite prestigious secondary school in town. Or it used to be, I don’t know how it is now. It has a swimming pool standing just by its side (and having a school of the same type at its other side, it used to serve as a poll station sometimes, and sometimes we would vote at our school too). I was going to the swimming pool with my father, sister and a friend. And then there’s a stadium between the school, my house, and the swimming pool. I used to run, cycle, climb, roll, play football, and fight there… I jogged there last time this last summer. Five tall sixteen-stories high ‘towers’ are quite new buildings. They were built after I went to school. We had a waste covered with high weeds there before, and we played there as kids.

Случайно обнаружил, что на Google Earth/Maps выложили фотографии Волгодонского района в высоком разрешении. Решил опубликовать в блоге экскурсию по местам моих детства и юности.

На этом фото мы видим местность с низкой орбиты. На севере — Цимлянск, где я родился. Это довольно старая (скоро будет 350 лет) и, по сегодняшним меркам, маленькая (15 тыс. чел. населения — самый маленький город Ростовской области) казачья станица. На юге, в 20 километрах от Цимлянска — Волгодонск (нас. 171 тыс.), ему всего полвека, там я провёл детство и юность, учился в школе и университете. Он расположен примерно на полпути между Ростовом-на-Дону и Волгоградом (столицами двух областей). Большая река в центре фотографии — это Дон, одна из самых больших и известных рек на юге европейской части России. «Море» справа — это Цимлянское водохранилище, его создали искусственно, затопив историческую станицу Цимлянскую и массу плодороднейших сельскохозяйственных угодий, насильственно переселив тысячи людей с их исторической земли, чтобы построить Цимлянскую ГЭС. Сейчас в водохранилище ловят рыбу и купаются, но в последние годы от него всё больше и больше проблем: эвтрофия, бурное цветение сине-зелёных водорослей (на фото это хорошо видно), выделение вонючего и парникового газа метана… Всё это последствия бурной индустриализации советского государства. Вокруг населённых пунктов — лоскутки полей, это сельскохозяйственный регион, благодаря благодатному климату и плодородной почве.

На следующем фото (сделанном с высоты птичьего полёта) можно видеть район Цимлянска (его южной окраины), где стоит дом, принадлежавший моим дедушке и бабушке по материнской линии, в который меня привезли сразу после моего рождения. Красный квадрат без подписи — это именно он: дом, подсобные помещения (курятники, гараж), сад, огород. Совсем рядом находится базар, а на южном въезде в город — церковь. Когда я был маленьким, её не было, а вместо неё был магазин продуктов. Поэтому я её не помню.

На этом виде с высоты полёта современного самолёта можно видеть практически весь Волгодонск: его деление на «старый город» (историческая часть, с которой начиналось строительство города) и «новый город», более позднюю и современную часть. Их разделяет залив, а соединяет — автомобильный мост через него, проложенный по верху дамбы. На верху фото можно видеть два канала: судоходный (именно он соединяет Волгу и Дон, отчего город и получил своё имя) и оросительный. В северной части города отчётливо виден грузовой порт. В плане насаждений город довольно зелёный, особенно «старый».

Снова высота полёта крупных хищных птиц. Здесь мы видим район в «старом городе», непосредственно примыкающий к мосту (внизу посередине на предыдущей фотографии и внизу справа — на этой) через залив. Район называется «Юго-Западный». На фото можно видеть оба детских сада, куда я ходил (тот, что на севере, «Журавлик», я посещал всего несколько дней, а потом заболел, а в другой, на юго-востоке, «Аленький цветочек», ходил довольно долго). Совсем рядом с моим домом (не весь дом принадлежит нашей семье, конечно же, это многоквартирная пятиэтажка) — школа. Раньше она носила имя Зои Космодемьянской (её история вдохновила Кима Стенли Робинсона использовать имя Zoya для одного из персонажей его «Марсианской трилогии»), а сейчас называется просто Муниципальная гимназия №5. Довольно престижное среднее учебное заведение. Было, по крайней мере, а как сейчас, не знаю. Вплотную к ней стоит бассейн. С другой стороны от него — школа №10, точно такого же типа, обычно там устраивали избирательный участок на выборах, но иногда голосовали и в нашей школе. В бассейн мы иногда ходили с отцом, сестрой и другом, однажды меня безуспешно пытались записать туда в секцию плаванья (я боялся прыгать в воду с бортика). Между домом, школой и бассейном — стадион, там я бегал, катался на велеке, прыгал, кувыркался, лазил… Последний раз совершил пробежку по нему этим летом. Пять высоких шестнадцатиэтажных башен справа — это, можно сказать, «новостройки». Их построили уже после того, как я пошёл в школу, а раньше на их месте был заросший сорняками пустырь, на нём мы играли детьми.

Двор крупным планом, высота полёта птиц поменьше (но скорее перелётных, чем городских голубей и воробёв). Можно видеть наш дом, а в соседнем сейчас живут бабушка и дедушка, те самые, чей старый дом в Цимлянске мы рассматривали на одной из предыдущих фотографий. Двор окружён такими же пятиэтажными домами, и только на юге нежилое здание — библиотека. Во дворе можно рассмотреть деревья, футбольное поле, песочницу, парковку…

The previous few weeks were intense green in color. It started early in the Saturday morning (Dec. 2), when me and Tomas went to the Green Party’s office. We were going to attend the courses organized for new party members. There were about ten participants besides us. To my own surprise, I didn’t have to bother Tomas much about the translation – owing to the course guide Lise Nordin’s (of course, a good acquaintance of Tomas! :-)) clearly understandable speech. I understood almost everything (well, like 70%—80%, maybe) and even dared to make remarks in Swedish from time to time. After a short breakfast and introduction of all the participants (they came not only from Lund, but from nearby cities and towns as well) we dived into the green political stuff…

Lise started the course with presentation of the green ideology: history, thinkers, main landmarks of development, today’s situation, positioning of the Green parties (Sweden’s Miljöpartiet De Gröna in particular) in politics among the left, right, center, green and “gray” parties and movements. A great deal of what we had been learning during the last Environmental Governance course has suddenly came out again… Abstract theories reconnected with political reality; it became clear how it was working in real life, and what it was needed for… After that Ulf Holm (#1 on the Skåne electoral list from the Green Party in last September’s elections; he was re-elected as a member of the national parliament of Sweden, Riksdag) made his presentation for us. Ulf told us about the history of the Miljöpartiet: its emergence, formation, development and reforming, then he told about the situation after the recent elections.

Then we had a dinner – a treat from MP for its new members. There was a choice between European, Chinese and Indian restaurants, I equally liked the latter two. So me, Tomas, Zeynep, Robban, and Ruthger found ourselves in the Chinese place. Before I had been passing by it often and wondering, what it was like inside. It turned out to be very nice, tasty and even not really expensive (if I’ll have to pay from my own pocket in the future ;-)). Roasted rice with vegetables, roasted vegetables and cashew with spices, plain rice, orange juice, mmm… Thanks to our new friends Robban and Ruthger and my “old” (but young! ;-)) friends Zeynep and Tomas, the dinner was filled with interesting discussions (we even got back to the office a little late)!

It was even more interesting at the afternoon presentations. Ulf spoke again at first, he told us about the actual issues of the Swedish national politics and the Miljöpartiet’s stances in them. One of the most interesting things I’ve heard there was this: ‘The climate policy should determine the financial policy (including the national budget)’ and ‘The struggle against climate change is the most important task!’. Wow, impressive! It would be great if all parties and governments of other nations followed this!.. It was a little difficult for me to understand Swedish sometimes, so I was switching my attention between Ulf and Tomas; the latter was zealously translating into English for Zeynep.

And then there was a brilliant presentation of Lotta Hedström, the member of the Riksdag and the Miljöpartiet’s speaker/representative (or språkrör in Swedish) in the past. Here I want to digress and describe who are those språkrör. Actually I’m not sure how to translate properly this Swedish word which consists of two parts, each of which separately means ‘speech’ and ‘voice’. The case is that there is no leaders and chair/wo/men in this party, but there are something like ‘representatives’ (they always come in duo: a woman and a man), whose task is not to lead the party and not to ‘make politics’, but to bring expectations of ordinary members to the highest political level (that’s Riksdag) and to be the ‘face’ and the ‘voice’ of the party. Their standard term is four years, but their mandate should be confirmed by voting at party congresses every year (it means that if people, the ordinary party members, are not satisfied with the språkrör’s work, they may vote for her or him to quit before the term finishes). It is also forbidden to be a språkrör for more than a fixed number of terms in succession (it is 2 or 3 now, I’m not sure). The current speakers/representatives are Maria and Peter, and now they’ve just had their first four-year term coming to an end). Thanks to this rotation system a lot of party members manage to serve as språkrör during their life in the Miljöpartiet.

Oh yes, so despite having her hair white, Lotta is still a very active politician, and she is also very radical (that’s why she and Tomas are good friends). Her speech was about fundamental green ideology (how it is nowadays) and it inspired me a lot.

I remember, how I started to think about the Green party for the first time, when I started reading Pacific Edge by Kim Stanley Robinson. I’ve studied an experience and activities of the Green parties all over the world (my favorite ones are Swedish, New Zealand and German; and from not long ago a Canadian one, witch started to give signs of hopes with the election of its new leader, Elizabeth May). I remember, how enthusiastically I accepted the decision of the Russian environmental movement to create its own independent Green party. I tried to participate in this process, I even was a delegate to the congress, wrote a part of their political party program… But personal ambitions, authoritarian and backstage methods of struggle for power (as if green politics was limited to the struggle for power!), Soviet-style of discussions with opponents – all of these poisoned my enthusiasm. I regarded politicians and politics in general with great suspicion before (my work at Greenpeace + anarchism + experience of the Russian politics = it was difficult to avoid cynicism, you see), but, oh boy, a short experience of working and communicating with our “green” politicians in Russia has almost killed my interest in Green parties in general and for good. Well, I want to hope that our very own Green Alternative (GROZA) made up of young Russian political greens could one day become the first real and independent Green party in the history of Russia…

Началось всё с того, что погода была наипрекраснейшая (особенно после вчерашнего ужасного ливня, продолжавшегося 12 часов без перерыва) и я решил позвать друзей пойти со мной в музей — давно туда собирался. В Швеции посещение почти всех музеев бесплатно для студентов, а в группе у нас полно любителей культурно-массовых мероприятий, поэтому долго уговаривать никого не пришлось. И вот после утренней лекции и послеполуденной йоги мы пошли в музей Kulturen, который расположен прямо в центре города и просто ОГРОМЕН!!! (за два с половиной часа мы не осмотрели — не обежали — и половины его богатств, наверное). Часть экспозиций живёт в многочисленных комплексах музея (например, вот в этом — фото 1), а другая часть — прямо под открытым небом (фото 2) и представляет собой примеры типичной архитектуры (дома, амбары, хлевы, церкви и т. д.) прошлого Швеции.

Экспозиция инсталяций «Ландшафты будущего 2020», экспонаты бронзового и железного веков, выставка «Вещи», экскурсия (с автоматическим голосовым сопровождением) в прошлое Швеции, эволюция игрушек шведских детей + параллельная эволюция взглядов общества на самих детей, воспоминания узников концлагеря и предметы их быта, история книгопечатания с работающими экспонатами (можно было самому набрать слово или предложение из маленьких литер на наборной доске), Макинтоши (оригинальная серия iMac) повсюду — и это ещё не всё (и даже, наверное, не половина!) из того, что мы осмотрели (порой мимоходом) за это время. После этого времени оставалось только на то, чтобы в той же компании съесть два фалафеля (большой и экстра-большой) и поспешить на шведский в надежде узнать сегодня результаты экзамена.

Именно их-то нам и сообщили в самом начале занятия. По сему поводу сегодняшнее занятие на курсе «Шведский для иностранцев» стало для меня последним: «оч. хор.» за ступень C (на которую меня определили в сентябре после прохождения теста в KOMVUX) и «хор.» за ступень D (высшая и последняя) позволяют мне начать заниматься на новом курсе — «Шведский как второй язык» — уже с января. Сердечно попрощались с преподавателем Óке, просто замечательным учителем и человеком. Я ему сообшил, что мы коллеги — я уже провёл здесь в Лунде два занятия на собственном курсе международного языка, завтра будет третье! О, да это же отдельная тема для блога, надо будет рассказать…

Впечатлённый сокровищами шведской культуры (Kulturen) и окрылённый собственными успехами в освоении шведского языка (KOMVUX), после занятия я решил приобщиться ещё к одной очень шведской вещи — празднованию Дня Святой Люсии (или, как чаще всего его называют, просто «Люсии»). Год назад в Москве я бессовестно упустил этот шанс, впав в спячку после возвращения из Канады и пересечения кучи часовых поясов с запада на восток. А потом вот очень жалел, что не разбудился и не пошёл посмотреть, как это празднуют датчане, шведы и изучающие шведский в Москве. Этот замечательный праздник, уходящий корнями в языческое прошлое (но имеющий вполне христианскую историю, см. биографию Св. Люсии), символизирует возвращение в мир света в самое тёмное и холодное время года (Рождество оттуда же родом, и тоже было переделано под христианский формат). В скандинавских странах в ночь с 12 на 13 декабря процессии девушек в белых одеждах, со свечами в руках и зелёными венками на головах, под предводительством «Люсии» (предположительно самой красивой и звонкоголосой из них) с венком из горящих свеч на голове распевают хором традиционные для этого дня песни (которые учат и готовят за три месяца до этого, а уж «Люсий» выбирают в Швеции в каждом коллективе — от супермаркета фитнес-клубы до школы и церковного прихода — всеобщим голосованием). Из всех возможных вариантов приобщения к этому празднику я выбрал наиболее удобный по времени и территориально (да ещё и самый центральный для города) — вечерний концерт (хоры девушек, юношей и детей, а капелла и в сопровождении органной музыки) в городском кафедральном соборе 16-го века. Атмосфера полного народа собора (я едва успел приобрести один из последних билетов), песни и сама церемония — всё было прекрасно. Я замечательно отдохнул душой и, можно сказать, достойно отпраздновал успешное окончания курса шведского языка. Вот такой получился день шведской культуры! А в России (в Ростове-на-Дону) тем временем продолжают незаконно задерживать людей, в том числе моих друзей. Ложь и взятка в этой стране сильнее любого закона на бумаге. Прочитать о том, как в прошедшее воскресенье в нарушение закона милиция по ложному доносу торговцев смертью задержала и всю ночь удерживала в КПЗ троих молодых ребят, распространявших информацию о правах животных, можно здесь и здесь.

Но самое главное: что можно сделать, чтобы хоть как-то повлиять как на исход этой истории, так и чтобы изменить подобные ситуации в будущем. А от задержания «просто так», для того, чтобы милиция выполнила разнарядку или «отработала» взятку, не застрахован никто, ни вы сами, ни ваши брат и сестра, ни ваши дети. Если молча терпеть и ничего не делать, то уже завтра число подобных издевательств вырастет ещё в несколько раз. Итак, выбор за вами, дорогие читатели: смолчать, стерпеть или открыто высказать своё мнение относительно творящегося беспредела? Последние семь дней прошли под знаком зелёной политической активности. Всё началось в прошлую субботу рано утром, когда мы с Томасом пришли в офис Зелёной партии на встречу/курсы для новых членов партии. Помимо нас было ещё человек десять участников, среди них двое не-шведов (из Ирана и Турции). К моему собственному удивлению, мне не пришлось напрягать Томаса переводом — благодаря внятному диалекту ведущей курса Лисе Нудин (конечно же, хорошей знакомой Томаса, кто бы сомневался!) я понимал практически всё и порой даже отваживался подавать реплики на шведском. После небольшого завтрака и знакомства всех участников (очень интересные люди собрались, многие новые сторонники партии приехали на эту встречу из других городов лена: Мальмё, Хельсингборга и прочих) мы начали интенсивное погружение в партийную науку…

Лисе начала курс с презентации зелёной идеологии: истории, мыслителях, основных вехах развития, текущего положения дел, позиционирования Зелёных партии (в частности Зелёной партии Швеции) на политическом пространстве среди разнообразных левых, правых, центристских, зелёных и серых партий и движений. Многое из того, что мы изучали на последнем курсе Environmental Governance вдруг зазвучало снова, абстрактные теории обрели связь с политической реальностью, стало как-то яснее, как это работает на самом деле и зачем вообще нужно. Затем перед нами выступил Ульф Холм — номер 1 в избирательном списке в Риксдаг от зелёных Сконе на последних выборах (конечно же, он был переизбран депутатом на следующие четыре года) и первый секретарь «Зелёной молодёжи», когда этот «комсомол» при Зелёной партии был создан в середине 80-х, а ещё он был депутатом Европарламента в начале 2000-х. Ульф рассказал нам об истории возникновения, процессе становления и реформирования Зелёной партии Швеции, а также о ситуации после недавних выборов.

Потом был обед, которым ЗП угощала своих новых сторонников. Был выбор между европейским, китайским и индийским ресторанами, последние два мне были равно по душе, в конце концов я, Томас, Зейнеп и двое других участников встречи оказались вместе в китайском заведении. Раньше я часто проходил мимо него и гадал, каково оно там внутри… Оказалось, что очень красиво, вкусно и даже не очень дорого (если в будущем придётся платить из своего кармана ;-)). Жареный рис с овощами, жареные овощи и кешью со специями, просто варёный рис, апельсиновый сок, ммм… Из застольной беседы выяснилось, что один из наших шведских друзей — бывший главный редактор газеты Нации Смоланда (вот так!), а другой — врач, который между прочим был в составе шведского подразделения (военного госпиталя) во время самой первой Войны в Заливе (операция «Буря в пустыне»), 16 лет назад. Так что обед прошёл не просто вкусно, но ещё и интересно!

Ещё интереснее было на послеобеденных презентациях. Сначала снова выступал Ульф, рассказывал об актуальных вопросах шведской национальной политики и позиции Зелёной партии по отношению к ним. Из самого интересного, что я услышал здесь, было: «Климатическая политика определяет финансовую политику (включая национальный бюджет)» и «Борьба с изменением климата — самая важная задача». Вот бы партии и правительства других стран прислушались к этому!.. Порой было немножко сложновато для понимания, так что время от времени я переключал слух с Ульфа на Томаса, который после обеда в поте лица шёпотом переводил для Зейнеп на английский.

Ну а потом было просто супервыступление Лотты Хедстрём, депутата Риксдага и в прошлом спикера Зелёной партии. Тут я хочу отвлечься и рассказать, кто такие «спикеры» партии. На самом деле, я не знаю, как лучше перевести шведское слово språkrör, которое состоит из двух частей, по отдельности означающих «речь» и «голос». Дело в том, что в этой партии нет лидеров и председателей, а есть как бы представители (их всегда пара — мужчина и женщина), задача которых — не руководить партией, и не «делать политику», а доносить чаяния рядовых членов на высший политических уровень (то есть Риксдаг) и быть «лицом» и «голосом» партии. Стандартный срок представительства — четыре года, но каждый год на партийных конгрессах мандат представителя подтверждается общим голосованием (то есть, если народ не доволен её работой, то вполне может проголосовать за досрочное прекращение выполнения ею обязанностей спикера). Также нельзя быть спикером больше определённого числа сроков подряд (сейчас то ли 2, то ли 3; у текущих спикеров — Петера и Марии — сейчас истекает первый четырёхгодичный период представительства). Благодаря такой системе ротации спикерами за свою политическую жизнь успевают побывать многие члены партии, появление своих «явлинских» или «жириновских» здесь просто невозможно (и, конечно же, нежелательно).

Ну так вот. Лотта уже в летах, но по-прежнему остаётся очень активным политиком, а ещё она очень радикальна (поэтому они с Томасом хорошие друзья и настоящие товарищи). Её выступление было на тему фундаментальной зелёной идеологии (какова она на сегодняшний день) и очень меня вдохновило.

Помню, как впервые задумался о Зелёной партии, начав читать «У кромки океана» (Pacific Edge) Кима Стенли Робинсона. Позже, работая в Гринпис (эта организация обычно всячески дистанцируется от Зелёных партий), заразился скептицизмом в отношении политических методов защиты окружающей среды, но потом интерес возник снова. Много изучал опыт Зелёных партий по всему миру (самые любимые — шведская, новозеландская и немецкая; а в последнее время и канадская, которая с избранием нового лидера стала подавать большие надежды). Помню, с каким энтузиазмом отнёсся к решению отечественного экологического движения создать свою независимую Зелёную партию. Пытался участвовать в этом процессе, был делегатом съезда, написал часть программы, вёл дискуссии в партийной рассылке и на форуме. Но личные амбиции Яблокова и его приближённых, авторитарные и закулисные методы борьбы за власть (как будто зелёная политика сводится к борьбе за власть!), совковый стиль ведения дискуссий с оппонентами и нулевые представления о том, что такое современная Зелёная партия у большинства «партстроителей», возраст абсолютного большинства которых давно перевалил за полувековую отметку — всё это буквально отравило мой энтузиазм. Я и раньше с большим подозрением относился к политикам и политике вообще (работа в Гринпис + анархизм + пример отечественной политики = трудно было не избежать цинизма), но, блин, краткий опыт работы и общения с нашими отечественными политическими «зелёными» деятелями, чуть было не отбили мой интерес к Зелёным партиям в принципе и навсегда. Думаю, многие из вас знают, к чему привели все эти дрязги и политиканство. Когда вы в последний раз слышали что-нибудь о российской Зелёной партии? Или хотя бы об одной из них? (с горькой усмешкой) Вот-вот, именно об этом я и говорю… Остаётся надежда на молодых политических зелёных, например, в ГРОЗЕ, но только будущее покажет, смогут ли они доказать, что достойны стать первой в истории страны настоящей и независимой Зелёной партией с большой буквы (сегодня пока что только «Яблоко» претендует на роль «зелёной» со строчной, о различиях между «З» и «з» читайте Зздесь — моя работа :-)).

Конечно, то, что и как делает Зелёная партии Швеции, а также работа в ней таких людей, как Томас Нильссон, не позволяли отдаться полному отчаянию и позволить цинизму поразить себя целиком. Но я чувствую, что вот этот субботний курс и в особенности выступление Лотты Хедстрём стали тем противоядием, которое позволило провести в сознании грань между тем, что было в России, и тем, как оно здесь в Швеции (в отношении Зелёных партий, конечно же). Про ротацию, «парность» и другие принципы работы спикеров я уже писал, а как вам, например, нынешняя «тройная солидарность», которая лежит в основе всей работы Зелёной партии Швеции:
  • Солидарность со всеми народами мира,
  • Солидарность с будущими поколениями,
  • Солидарность с нечеловеческим природным миром (животные, растения, экосистемы, ландшафты).
В этом контексте основными «глобальными» вопросами для Зелёной партии являются мир, пища, окружающая среда, солидарность (особенно в контексте прав человека; Лотта, кстати, тоже уверена, что взрывы домов в России осуществляло ФСБ, исполняя приказ власти о создании предлога для новой войны в Чечне), власть (здесь переплетаются такие понятия, как геополитика, терроризм, глобализация) и, конечно же, борьба с бедностью. Ну, в общем, не буду дальше забивать вам мозги политикой (тем более, что ниже я снова на пару минут вернусь к этой теме), если вам эта тема интересна, то можете писать на мой личный адрес или в комментарии — пообщаемся! ;-)

По окончании встречи (с которой я уходил окрылённый) мы с Томасом поспешили в гости к местному эсперантисту Калле — об этом отдельная запись.

В воскресенье по пути в Нацию Смоланда (пять часов веганской кулинарной оргии и непрерывного обжорства, на эту тему тоже будет отдельная запись) Томас рассказывал о своём видении зелёной идеологии (он автор и соавтор нескольких книг на эту тему, последняя из которых скоро будет издана гётеборгским отделением партии). Exciting!

В понедельник вечером состоялась долгожданная встреча «Зелёных студентов» — то же самое, что и в субботу, только в три раза короче и для молодёжи. Пришло 24 человека! Я тоже поспособствовал высокой явке — чуть меньше половины участников составили мои одноклассники, почти все уже активисты «Зелёных студентов», а пара пришедших впервые скорее всего тоже решат к нам присоединиться. В первой половине снова выступал Ульф с похожим рассказом (только в этот раз на английском) об истории партии, её молодёжного крыла Grön Ungdom и, с недавних пор, ещё и «Зелёных студентов». В это общее повествование он искусно (насколько позволял его английский) вплетал и свою личную историю в Зелёной партии. Потом мне дали возможность рассказать о создании (это произошло всего пару месяцев назад, когда я пришёл в Зелёную партию здесь и был одним из участников этого процесса) и деятельности «Зелёных студентов» в Лунде, после моей речи Ульф сказал, что он и сам не настолько стар, чтобы не вступить в нашу организацию, ха-ха! :-) В перерыве пообщался с теми ребятами, с которыми пересекался раньше в университете или в нациях по разным делам, и был очень рад (и приятно удивлён!) увидеть их на этой встрече.

Вторую часть вела Каролина Алготссон из Мальмё. Она представляла зелёную идеологию несколько иначе, чем Томас, а его работами она, по её словам, была «не особо впечатлена». Было бы интересно обсудить эти темы с ними обоими (Томас покинул Лунд в воскресенье в полдень), но её видение мне понравилось не меньше. Особенно идейная связь между экологией, разнообразием, децентрализацией, коллективизмом/солидарностью, индивидуализмом и квир (на помощь, читатели! как будем переводить queer на русский язык? не говорить же всё время ЛГБТ, к тому же это не то же самое…) Ну и, конечно, определяющее значение таких понятий, как качество жизни, благосостояние, счастье. “This is what it’s all about!”, вспоминается финальная фраза из вот этого короткого видео. Ранние и эко-анархисты (включая моих любимых мыслителей этого направления Петра Кропоткина и Мюррея Букчина) были упомянуты среди основных источников зелёных идей.

Уфф, я уж думал, что зеленéе и насыщенней партийными мероприятиями и общением с Томасом эта неделя не может стать в принципе, а вот поди ж ты… Когда в пятницу вечером мы досматривали документальный фильм «Шестое Солнце: восстание Майя в Чьяпасе», мне позвонил Томас и сказал, что он в этот самый момент находится здесь, в Лунде, проездом из Германии домой. К нам в учебный центр он подошёл аккурат к началу дискуссии после фильма. Учитывая, что его младший брат провёл в Чьяпасе несколько месяцев среди сапатистов, его вклад в рассказ о текущем положении дел в этом мексиканском штате оказался ценным и интересным. Потусовавшись немного в учебном центре (масса народа с моей программы LUMES и «братской» программы MESPOM, познакомившиеся с Томасом неделю назад в его предыдущий визит в Лунд, также были очень рады видеть его здесь снова), мы отправились на вечеринку Анны Юханссон — одного из лидеров «Зелёных студентов» в Лунде и самого молодого (22 года) депутата Горсовета от Зелёной партии (я, кажется, уже упоминал об этом в блоге). Томас, конечно же, встретил там кучу старых (в переносном смысле, ибо там тусовалась одна молодёжь) друзей и знакомых. Я, к моему собственному удивлению, тоже: в таком небольшом университетском городке как Лунд вся прогрессивная зелёная молодёжь знает друг друга лично и часто собирается в одних и тех же местах. А число моих новых знакомых после этой вечеринки выросло ещё больше. Как и на мероприятии в понедельник, здесь были люди из окрестных городов и весь. Благодаря им выяснилось, что Анна — не единственный молодой зелёный политик в структурах местной власти: я познакомился с ребятами, которые тоже заседают в городских советов своих муниципалитетов, все они моложе 25. Вообще, было очень интересно пообщаться с ровесниками, которые разделяют твои интересы относительно зелёной политики, устойчивости и тому подобных вещей, которые изучают те же вещи, что и ты сам, часто с теми же преподавателями и по тем же учебникам, которые работают в тех же организациях, что и ты (помимо «Зелёных студентов» и Зелёной партии вообще, «Университет Устойчивости» был представлен особенно многочисленно на этой вечеринке).

Дома, как обычно, оказались далеко за полночь, и наконец-то весь сегодняшний день (субботу) я смог провести в одиночестве, расслабляясь после насыщенной общественной деятельностью зелёной недели… Но уже завтра ждёт рождественский приём Зелёной партии Лунда, а вечером — рождественская вечеринка нашего класса, ура!

An unexpected guest

I wake up early, because Sunday morning was the only time available for booking the laundry. Tomas is out tonight. When I come back from the laundry, I hear the loud meow! behind the door. I open it and see the cat. It’s all black, like that famous New Zealand’s rugby team. Very handsome, very well-fed, and apparently very loved – I see the fancy collar on its neck. I invite him to come in. For a couple of minutes he hesitates at the door and looks inside curiously – what interesting stuff does this guy have there? Then he makes up his mind and comes in. I offer him a piece of vegan butter, he licks out a half of it, is he just being polite or what? Then he goes on to explore a new territory. We argue if he can open closets and get inside. I lose the debate and the victorious cat curiously checks out my clothes. He comes to my call, lets me caress him, and sings me a song, when I scratch his head between the ears. I take him into my arms and we do a little photo session in front of my Mac (photo1, photo2, photo3, photo4). Beautiful! But it’s even more exciting to jump onto my bed, table and bookshelves, so he leaves my lap and goes on to have some fun. Then he comes to the door and gives another short meow! order. Ok, I got it, buddy. I open then door and the cat strolls down the alley in a very busy-looking manner. I wonder if I should name him Tom…


Просыпаюсь рано, так как прачечную удалось забронировать только на утро воскресенья… Томас и сегодня вписался ночевать к одной из моих одноклассниц, так что я дома один. Вернувшись из прачечной и закрыв за собой дверь квартирки, вдруг слышу за ней громкое жалобное мяуканье. Открываю — кот. Сплошная чернота, включая носик, усы и подушечки лап. Очень ухоженный, упитанный и, видимо, очень любимый — на нём бриллиантовый ошейничек. Приглашаю зайти. Кот стоит в нерешительности на пороге и рассматривает, что там у меня в квартире интересного. После пары минут напряжённых раздумий решается зайти. Я предлагаю гостю кусочек веганского маргарина на тарелочке. Кот охотно и вежливо слизывает половину порции и отправляется исследовать новую территорию. Мы недолго спорим на тему того, можно ли открывать и заглядывать в шкафы, но потом я, конечно же, сдаюсь, и торжествующий кот осматривает содержимое моего гардероба. Охотно прибегает на зов, даёт гладиться и начинает мурлыкать, когда чешут между ушами. Осмелев, я беру кота на руки (и правда упитанный!) и провожу с ним фотосессию за компьютером (фото1, фото2, фото3, фото4). Красавчик! Но, конечно, походить по столу, кровати, подоконникам и полкам не менее интересно, чем фотографироваться, и звезда модных кошачих журналов покидает мои колени. Когда кот подходит к двери, приоткрываю её для него, он выходит, видит, что солнце ещё не взошло, на улице холодно, птички не поют… и решает вернуться. Понежившись ещё раз у меня на коленях и намурлыкавшись вдоволь, кот, поиграв на прощание с зарядкой от мобильного, подходит к двери и коротко мяукает один раз. Всё понятно, я послушно исполняю просьбу: открываю дверь и кот решительно отправляется куда-то по своим делам. Я подумываю, не назвать ли его Томом…

…isn’t something that perverts do, but a kind of collective creativity, when several people from one organization (like family, church, company, study programme and so on) keep a common diary on the Internet. One of my favorite examples, to which I also try to contribute, is of course ItsGettingHotInHere.org, the international youth climate action’s blog. But the real cause for this entry is a launch of the LUMES 2006—2008 collective blog at lumes2006.blogspot.com. It’ll be mostly in English, I suppose. Gonna be the chronicles of our lives in development. I hope that our* friends will be curious enough to follow not only our individual lives, but our group as a collective too, as one single social organism. Firstly, to understand us better, to understand what kind of changes are happening to us during the Study in Sweden, to understand the environment we spend most our time here in, and what influences us and in what ways… Secondly, to understand better who are those Ignacio, Adrianne, Autumn, Summer, Yo, Yukey, Theo, Zeynep, Laurent, Reshmi and others, whom we mention sometimes in our individual blogs… And, thirdly and finally, the blog is intended to help the eventual LUMES students to get an impression about what the perfect group’s life may be! Welcome!

…это не извращение, а вид коллективной творческой деятельности, когда несколько человек из одной организации (семьи, церкви, фирмы или класса и т. п.) ведут совместный дневник в интернете. Один из моих любимых примеров (в котором я тоже принимаю участие) это, конечно же, ItsGettingHotInHere.org — блог международного молодёжного климатического действия. Но настоящий повод для этой записи — открытие группового блога LUMES (2006—2008 годов обучения) на lumes2006.blogspot.com. Преимущественно англоязычного, я полагаю. Это будут хроники жизни нашей группы в развитии. Надеюсь, что нашим* друзьям будет интересно следить не только за нашими жизнями по отдельности, но и за нашим коллективом в целом, как за единым социальным организмом.
